"ur emails stress me out" - a DM I got
what I did when my worst fear came true
I was crashing out.
Some horrible placeholder AI-generated emails had just gotten sent out to thousands of people,
Instead of the emails I spent hours writing.
I immediately sent a “I’m sorry” email.
Crossed my fingers and hoped everything would be okay.
But then I got this DM…

Back up…why am I telling you this story?
I promise today’s email has a point to it.
I’m not just here ranting about my horrible situation
(It’s not that bad, looking back).
I’ve been chatting with a few creators these last few days.
Here’s what they tell me:
“My audience can’t afford this, I should change my offer to a lower price”
“I don’t want to annoy people, I shouldn’t promote my stuff too much.”
“What if no one buys my course?”
“None of my videos are getting many views, I just want people to like me…”
Here’s what I hear:
“I’m rejecting myself before other people have a chance to.”
And it’s not like I can tell them this straight up:
“MAKE them reject you, don’t assume they will.”
So instead I tell them this story of my worst fear coming true…
Hopefully it’ll inspire you too.
“Your emails are kinda stressing me out”
That actually wasn’t the only message I got.
This person sent me a few messages over the course of a few hours.
At first, I didn’t know how to respond…so I left it til the end of the day.
I had to take some time to calm myself down,
So I could respond from a place of curiosity instead of defensiveness.
“I’m so sorry about that,” I told him.
He saw my message right away.
We ended up having a conversation about it.
He shared a bit about how he admired my content and follows me for my personality -
How my emails always come from the heart.
I shared a bit about my struggles with the email issues,
And we understood each other better.
Then he sent me this:

My worst fears taught me I could handle them
Now, every time I think things like “maybe I shouldn’t do this, people will say no,”
I wonder: is that actually true?
Why not just go for it and make them tell me no?
Either way, I’ll win:
They say yes → I get what I want
They say no → I learn something new
It’s like how one of my coaching clients sent out an email and got 4 people unsubscribing.
I was scared of the unsubscribes too.
But that’s not gonna stop me from sending emails.
In fact, when I promoted my course, I got 1k+ unsubscribes:

But I made $6k (well, $11k if you count payment plans).
So it’s not really a loss, because I learn from it.
Thinking of business (and life) like that:
(A series of levels with learnings)
Makes it way more fun.
Hope you take some inspiration from today’s story and do something out of your comfort zone too 🫶
How was today's email? |
Til next week,
Jennifer
