I paid $6k for a business coach. Here's everything I learned so far
plus updates on my offers
Just got off the call with my coach (that’s why this email is sending late).
If you’re curious about what made me drop $6k after a short 1 hour non-sales sales call, I break it down below.

Securing the sale
The funnel:
Saw his content on Threads, and it resonated with me
Booked a call that felt low pressure (more about exploring whether his systems can help with my problem)
Sales call was really well done

Addressed potential objections with “no sales pressure tactics”
Things I noticed that took me from “I’m not sure” to “let me pay you right now”:
Aligned interests: he said he wanted a good case study/testimonial from me too
Confidence in expertise: he had 9+ years of experience and shared previous client case studies (clients similar to me)
Problem-specific: he asked me questions and clarified what problems I had and how confident he was that his system could help (qualified me as a lead)
One-time payment: I was expecting monthly payment but he focused on speed (helping me get things running in less than 21 days) and said if I feel like I need more support, I can upgrade to the community
Decreased risk: if I don’t get ROI, he’d work with me until I get my first high-ticket client
One interesting thing he did at the beginning was say “I saw you put this as your monthly revenue right now, to be transparent and not waste our time, this is my price.”
Also important to note that it was £3,500 which was $6,000 CAD, so that also made the sale easier in my opinion because I felt committed at the lower number already 😅
So the higher number made me think “well, I already bought into the offer, what’s a few thousand dollars more. It’s a business expense.”
Someone roasted me about paying that much for a coach with less than 1,000 followers 💀
He was like “I can give you the same business advice for free.”
The business advice in question:

Here I’m talking about when I moved from my other newsletter to this one a few months ago
He also roasted the fact that my coach had less than 1,000 followers.
But to me, the number of followers didn’t matter.
What mattered was:
My coach’s content was good
I trusted he had the expertise to help me
His funnel/sales call gave me confidence
I literally saw his posts, booked a call, and paid $6k (all in the span of 2 days).
What I learned
I didn’t just pay $6k for the clarity he’d give me.
I also paid to see what a high-ticket coaching program looked like.
Here’s everything he did well.
Communicated expectations
Quick messages immediately after the sales call to reassure me I made the right decision.

I especially liked how he tailored his communications to my preference, asking me if I preferred long written text or voice notes.

Made me feel cared for and supported
He shared how much time and effort he was taking with our work.

After every meeting, he said we could chat more on Slack so I never felt like I was “missing out” on his insights even when we weren’t on a call.
Gave me reassurance and validation
He asked a lot of questions and repeated my answers back to me to make sure he understood.
Then, he shared why he was so confident in me based on his experience and what I was telling him about my business.
He used a lot of examples to make me more confident in my offer.

Clarity on next steps
At the beginning of every call, he shared what we’d talk about.
Through Slack, he’d constantly share what the next steps were.
Gave me ownership
He created a deck that distilled all the random braindumps I was giving him. He also spent hours on research.
For the deck, he wanted my brand colours and font to make it more “mine” which I really liked. I felt like I had control over my business, and he was helping me accelerate my growth.
Empowered me to think critically
I came to him with some problems/shared a bit of why I had imposter syndrome.
He asked me:
“If I came to you with that question, what would you say to me?”
Then he walked me through a few examples and analogies (I don’t expect an Olympic runner to teach me how to be an Olympic runner; I expect them to teach me how to run better).
Reflect on your own experiences
As you can probably tell, I took tons of notes on the whole sales process.
I have the exact same mindset when it comes to consuming content online:
Consume content intentionally.
Use it to inspire, not to feel guilty about doomscrolling and “wasting time.”
That’s why I keep a database of swipe files full of emails, social media posts, and websites I like.

Reminder: upgrade before Jan 2025 for more
If you found this content useful, I’ll be sharing more of it transparently starting Jan 2025.
I noticed as this newsletter grows, I felt less comfortable sharing certain things publicly,
Like my exact revenue breakdown this year (making 41k+ from low-to mid-ticket digital product sales).

So while I’ll still share a few useful tips + a summary for free subscribers…
Starting Jan 1, 2025 I’ll be paywalling most of the content in this newsletter.
It’ll be $11/month for everything I know about running a creator business.
And in January, I’m increasing it to $25/month.
If you find the content here useful, consider upgrading to premium - it’ll support the hours I spend writing these articles.
Hope to scale with you next year 🫶
Til next week,
Jennifer
