exposing my analytics (surprising)

plus what performed the best, unexpectedly

One of my biggest regrets?

Thinking “I’ll just set up analytics later.”

Because I didn’t copy paste 1 single piece of code on my sales page,

I lost out on months of insights.

(The growth marketer in me is ashamed 😭)

When I shared this in a creators group chat,

I realized others hadn’t been tracking either.

So today I want to show you how I’m thinking about tracking.

How I tracked things

Usually I keep an eye on 3 things per month:

  1. Revenue (here’s how I track finances)

  2. Newsletter subscribers

  3. Viral posts (over 50k views)

But then I saw this post about tracking conversion rates…

And realized I was tracking parts of a whole.

I should’ve tracked how many of my posts converted to newsletter subscribers,

And how many subscribers converted to purchases.

Exposing my conversion rates

I did some rough calculations.

Course conversion rate

As time went on, my life tracking course conversion rate (website → purchase) went down.

Unfortunately I don’t know the conversion rate from order page → purchase, because I didn’t set up analytics for it 😩

Async biz course didn’t have a website, just an order form. Most ppl who clicked the order form purchased, bc I sold them on the promo email I sent

$ made per email subscriber

At my best, I was making around $1.50 per email subscriber I had.

Lead magnet conversion rate

When I look at my lead magnets with most page views, it’s clear I had been too scattered in my business.

I have WAY too many lead magnets confusing people,

Hence why I changed my link in bio:

The lead magnet conversion rate tells me which type of lead magnets to double down on, and which to stop wasting time and effort on.

Not sure how I got more email subs than page views for the finance one

Email analytics

I also took a look at which content resonated with my subscribers the most.

To get this data, I looked at the feedback poll and which content generated the most responses.

So far, the common theme that works well for me is:

Specific problem → story (vulnerability) → simple system or template.

What to do with the data?

  1. Focus on 1 course to increase conversion rate on

  2. Double down on lead magnets that work well

  3. Create content based on emails that performed well

What would you do with this data?

Let me know if you have any questions - would love to hear what you think.

Til next week,

Jennifer
