Course launch marketing tips

Plus September income report

This week I posted my course revenue on Reddit.

Got a lot of questions and DMs about how I made over $20k with my course (over 2 cohorts).

I’ve been directing everyone to this newsletter + my Twitter, where I’ve documented my entire process.

So today, I’m sharing:

  • September income report (and also my expenses…rip made many mistakes)

  • Quick course launch tips

September income report

First: the numbers here are counted only when I get an email saying I got paid.

So future payments from payment plans in my course are not included.

This also only includes September too - any course payments made in October didn’t count.

94.6% of revenue in September ($3,881.20) came from course sales

Not including course sales in October, or remaining payment plan payments in the next 3 months.

I made more from B2C sources (course, templates)

B2C sources also had higher ROI, despite more time spent

I barely got any sponsorships/newsletter ad revenue this month, which is why.

I spent $10.7k+ on taxes and accounting :(

First - course refunds

Around 5-6 people asked for a refund for the course, citing these reasons:

  • Didn’t have time for the course

  • Got laid off, needed money back and time to search for a new job (so again, didn’t have time for the course)

Everyone was super nice saying they’d love to support me again in the future sometime once they’re more financially secure 🥺

Accounting pain

Also I have been going through accounting and bookkeeping PAIN recently since my fiscal year ended, and am going to pay $700 for a financial advice session in November.

Let me know if you want me to share more about what I learn from that session by replying “accounting”!

Course launch tips

  1. Daily actions help a lot - I made a vlog about my course creation journey every day

  2. Frame your landing page around relatable problems your ideal customer has

  3. Add language to your landing page about a transformation or how others will perceive your ideal customer (i.e. “your boss will be so impressed”)

  4. Having an enrollment deadline increased sales when the deadline approached - I run my courses on a cohort basis

  5. Add your course promo (even if it’s on waitlist/presale) to your welcome email sequence, if you have a newsletter

  6. Include messaging focusing on what students can make or get in the course (templates, projects) = looks cool and gets them excited

  7. Taking a payment plan can be risky but can increase number of students/sales

  8. Sharing the course on social media every day (not just promoting but teasing the content, havingn a course preview, getting people excited) helps a lot

I have more detailed templates below for premium subscribers, but in the meantime, I’m not sure how to best help you.
