business advice I wish I knew sooner
stop wasting time on this
“Do I need a website?”
“I need a better funnel.”
“I’m gonna make another product.”
I’ve been guilty of thinking these before…
But I forgot what actually helped me move my business forward.
(After all, I made $40k with my course with no website - just a Notion page.)
Here are my honest thoughts if you’re feeling stuck and uncertain in your business.
hot take: no one’s gonna save you (but yourself)
I used to think paying for a coach or a course would fix all my business problems.
The issue is, it was always temporary.
Why?
The underlying issue wasn’t my business.
It was myself.
“This other creator is way better than me, let me learn from them and do what they do.”
By comparing myself to others, I was learning:
I can’t trust myself.
Don’t get me wrong - a good mentor can help a lot.
But a mentor can’t make your business decisions for you.
A mentor can’t tell you which business is best for the lifestyle you want…
At least not without you knowing yourself well first.
learn from experience: hypothesis testing
“What if I don’t know what I like doing?”
This is why I measure what I do.
It’s like an experiment.
Set a clear duration,
A simple change you want to test,
And numbers you’ll measure.
Example
If I want to grow my social media following, I hypothesize that posting every day for 30 days will help.
Metrics involved:
Number of posts made (should be 30 by the end of the 30 days)
Number of followers gained
Number of views per video (optional)
Treating it like an experiment - acting from a place of learning and curiosity - helps with detaching your self worth from the result.
Instead of being sad you got less than 200 views,
You can log it in a spreadsheet and write down what you learned.
(Like maybe testing a different hook.)
Having a specific duration for the experiment encourages you to stay consistent,
So you can have your curiosity satisfied.
And you’ll also learn more about what you like doing for your business.
If you’re excited about this approach, reply and let me know:
What experiment will you run for the next month?
