24 learnings from 2024
plus income report for October
Today marks exactly 5 months since I started traveling.
Since then, I’ve:
Created and launched 2 cohorts of my course
Had 1 identity crisis (last week)
Travelled to 5 countries and learned so many new things
Gotten laid off from my full-time remote job
Made so many new friends 🥺
And since we have just 2 months left til the end of the year,
I thought it’d be a good time to reflect on 24 of my biggest learnings in 2024…
Especially if you’re curious about leading a life like mine
(Traveling and working remotely as a content/course creator).
10 business learnings
Launch before you’re ready. Planning = procrastinating sometimes
Just because something can be a business expense doesn’t mean you should spend money on it
Track ALL your finances (income and expenses, invoices, receipts). 5 mins here and there will save you hours in the long run
When filming travel content, don’t move the camera too fast (using Live photo can help a lot if you use iPhone). This way you can capture content and enjoy living in the moment
Update your audience on how you’re doing - personal stories build trust
It’s okay to take a break - you won’t be a “failure.” More businesses end due to founder burnout than when the founder takes a vacation
If you’re chasing MRR (monthly recurring revenue) as a content creator, but don’t want to be stuck creating new content every month…people are more likely to pay in installments for a higher-priced item than for a low-cost subscription (course vs community). When you include a bunch of courses/resources in your community, it reduces the value of each offer. When you price things higher, people put more effort in
Some people go viral but views don’t convert to followers. Others have less than 10k followers but land 4-figure brand deals. Obsess over conversion rate optimization, not vanity metrics like views or follows
Focus on 1 thing at a time. There’ll be time for your other project ideas later
Ask lots of questions. You have tons of resources available online - use them. Feel free to ask me any questions by replying to this email too :)
10 digital nomad learnings
Pack less clothes than you think you need (and make sure they’re comfortable). You’ll waste less time repacking + feel better
Always bring a pen and paper (business notes while chatting with interesting strangers, filling out declaration forms)
Join FB group chats for digital nomads to get the best working spots
Print out a paper copy of your passport/keep photos of all your documents somewhere. All important docs/contact info should be shared with your emergency contacts
Figure out visas months before…don’t get stuck at the airport unable to board your flight 😩
Set up an authentication app on your phone before traveling long-term, in case you’re unable to receive MFA/SMS verification texts
Say hi to random people you meet - there’s so much you can learn from others
Work with your energy levels instead of against them (especially if you’re traveling across different timezones)
Contrary to what you see on Twitter sometimes, life is more than fancy MRR screenshots 😅 it’s about what that money can enable you to do, so don’t waste every day in front of a screen. Try to see at least 1 cool new thing a day
Be okay with letting go - of places you loved, strangers you chatted with, and favourite restaurants you’ll never get to eat at again. Many things in life are temporary, be grateful you got to experience it
4 personal learnings
Nothing is guaranteed and most things in life are temporary, so why not chase that passion that’s been at the back of your mind for years?
Stop making assumptions - communicate how you feel
Make an effort to catch up with loved ones. Time with them is limited
The only thing stopping you is yourself…if you think you can do it, you’ll make it happen. But if you believe you can’t, then you won’t put in any effort
October income report
This month, I didn’t really work on my business because I was traveling full time.
But I still ended up with $3,795.60 by the end of October.
